Brazil Brazil Brazil

Experience with me this world’s most famous Brazilian Carnival.

Brazil has a population of over 155 million people in 26 provinces, which are divided up into five regions. Sao Paulo has the largest population with 10 Million people. Rio de Janeiro follows as the second largest city with a population of 10 million. Belo Horizonte is the third largest city with a population of more than 3.8 million. The Capital City of Brazil, Brasilia has a population of 1.6 million inhabitants. The official language in Brazil is Portuguese with many different dialects in each province.

Music and Dance

It has been said that Brazil is the most possessed Country in the world in regards to music and dance. Music and dance is a part of everyday life and feeling in Brazil. The Carnival in Rio de Janeiro was in the past and still is the most famous Carnival in the world, and the colorful parade of the Samba School is the high light. Every year during the Carnival the Samba Schools are in competition with each other. Every single aspect of their presentation is closely watched and evaluated by a jury. The most important aspect being the costumes and choreography, the overall view and the quality of the parade. Even though there is a large variety of different music, dance and culture and customs in Brazil they stand together and are as equally important. The immigration wave left a definite impression. The Portuguese discovered Brazil, followed by Jesuit and involuntary slaves from Africa. In addition to political and business persons seeking exile in the 19 th and 20 th Century.

Also Polish Catholics, Italian Anarchists, German Jews, Koreans, Palestinians, Japanese and Christians from the Near East. At that time the Jesuits recognized the importance of the music to the Indians and respected the ritual. This is how they joined the Gospel, Catholic, Liturgy and Indian ritual singing and culture together. The main point of the Indian music lies in the rhythm and not in the melody. The main instruments are the Maracas, various rattles and the Pan-Flute. Gradually the meaning of the text to the ritual songs was lost, and replaced by the magical sounds. The rhythm instruments are the nasal voice, the lyrics sung in the chorus and the ritual, the verses are part of the inheritance from the Brazilian Indians, today’s pop music ends with a deeper note, accompanied by life, dance and celebration...
